What is Business Ethernet?

Ethernet (or Mid-Band Ethernet) is a high-performance, business grade, dedicated connection to the internet. These services are also referred to as SHDSL connections (Symmetrical High-speed Digital Subscriber Line). Our Business Ethernet services can be delivered over fibre or, more commonly, existing copper infrastructure.

When using existing infrastructure, up to 8 copper pairs are bonded together into a powerful and resilient Ethernet link that can support symmetrical upload and download speeds of up to 80Mbps. This delivery method means we can achieve significantly greater speed and flexibility than traditional ADSL connections, without the install cost and lead time of fibre.

The advanced design of the network ensures that should one or more copper pairs fail the remaining pairs will continue to provide connectivity, keeping the service online.

Symmetrical upload and download speeds are much different to a standard ADSL service where the download speed is significantly faster than the upload speed (asymmetrical).
